Dragon Training 101: The Way of the Warrior

The sequel to the movie How to Train Your Dragon is at theaters now; and it made me think about revelations I received when watching the original movie. God can use anything to impart knowledge to us; and HTTYD is a cute cartoon; but it's more than family fun. It has lessons about true strength, love, and dealing with difficult people.

A Message from Anointed Messenger

I enjoyed Dreamworks movie How to Train Your Dragon, which is about a place where fierce warriors train to kill the dragons that overrun their village. It's the kind of story I love; the unlikely hero Hiccup is an underdog who doesn't fit in. He's looked down upon by the mighty Vikings who love a physical fight and delight in getting battle scars.
Hiccup might remind you of Gideon, who described himself as the weakest of the weak [Judges 6]. But Hiccup is smart, and his greatest strength is his compassion. When he shows mercy to the fiercest, deadliest dragon of all, everything turns around. Instead of trying to defeat the dragons with violence, he tries to connect with them.

As I was captivated by this cartoon God showed me that the reason I like this sort of thing so
much is because it's the way of His warriors. Yes physical prowess and brute strength are impressive, and they are gifts from God; but they can't compare to those whom operate in humility and love. By operating in love Hiccup was able to do things that even the strongest Vikings couldn't accomplish. It's one thing to see someone defeating foes with muscles and swords, but it's astonishing to see someone tame the wildest fiercest beast with love. Hiccup didn't defeat his enemy, he transformed  him into a friend.

God's Beloved, God has given us a power that the world doesn't understand and cannot defeat. Trust God, walk in love, and be amazed at what God can do through you.

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8 AMP

On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."[a]
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:20-21 NIV

Dear Lord
Sometimes I feel too weak and too small to accomplish my assignments; but my strength and my hope are in You. I will not worry about the size of my enemies, for You are with me. Help me do things Your way; for then victory is assured. When I am attacked, keep me from reacting with violence. Give me grace to always walk in love - as love never fails. When we love, everybody wins.
